About this memory

The last trams of the former tram system ran on 16th November 1956, with a procession making the final journey south to the depot at Shrubhill. They carried local dignitaries and members of the public. Many people turned out on the streets to watch the procession.

    I remember this well! I was 6 and my Dad and I were there. He worked in the C. Chambers and got free tickets! When we arrived at our destination everybody stood up and took out their tools and screwdrivers and proceeded to undo bits as souvenirs!!! We never had any but someone gave me a light cover and a sign which said ‘“no speaking to the driver whilst this tram is moving” or something like that’. Both now lost in time ‘sadly’. Happy days!
