Portrait Woman In Threaded Handmade Frame c.1943
1943

About this memory
Janet McKenzie.
Janet was in the Women’s Land Army from 1942-44.
“[An] Italian POW took this photo. I was in a hostel, Harry Burn House, [in] Lauder. There were twelve of us in the hostel – eight from Edinburgh and four from Glasgow. I was doing field work, which was hard physical work.
“Whan I was in the Land Army an Italian POW took this photo. We were not supposed to speak to them. The coloured mount was made with sewing thread.” – Janet McKenzie [2003]
