Prisoners Being Escorted Off Submarine 1940s

About this memory

“My brother, also named Ernest, served in the merchant fleet – when the two got together talking about exploits there was a big difference in opinion. Brother in convoys carrying supplies which were vital, Dad [Ernest Mobbs] in Royal Navy, there to see they got through.

“Oddly enough they found themselves at sea in the Atlantic at the same time. The captains allowed them to contact. Maybe 1000 to 1 chance.” – Evelyn Muir (née Mobbs)

Photograph from collection of Ernest Mobbs who served in both World Wars.

Donor number: 0127-030
