Two Girls Outside Family Hut In Balerno c.1945

Two Girls Outside Family Hut In Balerno c.1945

About this memory

Neta Percy (sitting) with her neighbour Josephine (standing).

The hut was constructed at Balerno by Neta’s dad, Robert, in the case of the family home in Edinburgh being bombed during the war. It was built on the land of the Malleny Mill which was a sawmill where bungs were cut for the drinks casks.

Neta’s dad installed a stove in the hut, but for the outside he used piping that was flammable, resulting in the pipe exploding into pieces!
