“Sisters May and Frances Swanson in a friend’s garden, with friend’s dog. [They] called the friend ‘Auntie Donnie’ although not related.
“Frances lived with ‘Donnie’ during World War Two while her husband was in Burma. They married during leave before he was sent abroad. May died in childbirth in September 1951.” – Margaret Munro [2008]
