Uncle And Niece Going For A Paddle In The Sea c.1950

Uncle And Niece Going For A Paddle In The Sea c.1950

About this memory

Norma-Ann Coleman (née Clayton) and her uncle, Alex Miller, testing the temperature of the water at Irvine Beach.

“Do you remember these elasticated swimming costumes? They were very tight and uncomfortable. I look quite relaxed here though paddling in the sea at Irvine with my Uncle Alex who looks as if he could win a knobbly knees competition. His legs are even skinnier than mine!

“Unlike nearby Troon with its promenade and swimming pool, Irvine was not regarded as a seaside holiday resort but it had a lovely sandy beach and we loved to play in the sand dunes as children.” – Norma-Ann Coleman
