“Not having children of my own I was thrilled to have been asked to be godmother to Malcolm. Ada and Eric were the nicest couple I had ever known. At the time of the photo they had a house in the country, it went with the job as Eric worked long and hard hours as a farmer’s labourer.
“I see my mum has her handkerchief pinned with a brooch on her dress – I had forgotten she did that.” – Evelyn Muir (née Mobbs)
